Wahome Mutahi Literary Award

The Wahome Mutahi Literary Award is the brain-child of the Kenya Publishers Association. It was established in 2004 and is open to Kenyan writers whose work is published in Kenya. The prize will be given bi-annually to the author of the most outstanding new book that will use humor and satire to explore areas such as human rights, governance, etiquette and other relevant social issues in the following categories:

Adult Fiction:
English and Kiswahili
Eligible entries for the 2010 Prize are those books published in 2008 and 2009 respectively
Be informed that the entry fee for KPA members is Kshs 5,000/= while for non members is Kshs 10,000/= per entry.
Kindly note that the deadline for submission will be 16th April, 2010.

The inaugural winner of the Wahome Mutahi Literary award in 2006 for the English category was Onduko bw’ Atebe with his book, 'The Verdict of Death' published by EAEP.

Second prize went to 'Wait for me Angela' by Stephen Mugambi published by Kenya Literature Bureau.
Kingwa Kamencu’s book 'To Grasp at a Star' came in third, published by EAEP.

In the Kiswahili category, the first prize was taken by Adam Shafi with his book 'Haini' published by Longhorn Publishers.' Paradiso' by John Habwe published by Jomo Kenyatta Foundation took second position while Wimbo Mpya by Mwenda Mbatia published by Jomo Kenyatta Foundation was third.

In 2008 the winner English category was 'Voice of the people' by Okiya Omtatah Okoiti published by EAEP; second price went to the 'Boy gift' by Meja Mwangi published by EAEP and Shadowman: 'The wizard and the book' by Tuf Mulokwa published by Longhorn Publishers came in third.
In the Kiswahili category, the first prize was taken by Mwenda Mbatiah with his book 'Vipanya Vya Maabara' Published by Jomo Kenyatta Foundation. 'Ndoto ya Almasi' by Ken Walibora published by Macmillan (K) Publishers took second position while 'Msimu wa Vipepeo' by K.W. Wamitila published by Vide muwa came in third.
