Evans Brothers (Kenya) Ltd is a long time educational books publisher. Since the Company was incorporated in 1966, it has been a key publisher of school textbooks and supplementary books for primary, secondary schools, teacher training colleges and university institutions.
In the late 1970s, the Company enjoyed considerable success with the series Kenya Primary Geography. Following the introduction of the 8-4-4 curriculum, the Company published primary school textbooks for the new syllabuses in Geography, History and Civics, Islamic Religious Education, and local languages, notably Kiswahili and Kikuyu. It also published secondary school textbooks for Geography, History, and Mathematics. During the early 1990s, Kisima cha Giningi and Kusadikika were both examinable set books for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. The Company's primary school supplementary readers in English have been widely used in schools across the country. From 2003 to date, the Company has successfully submitted primary school textbooks for Kiswahili and Science for evaluation and approval. These books are now in use in schools across Kenya. The Company has developed a Kiswahili literature book for colleges which has been approved and is in use.
The Company's offices are located in Kijabe Street with responsibility for the Company's current activities shared by Mr Theophilus Opanga , responsible for sales and marketing. t the same time, Mr Pius Simiyu is responsible for the Company's publishing programme. The Company retains the services of freelance editorial and design personnel as well as having desktop publishing facilities in its offices. The Company's sales team comprises of staff and a network of commission representatives and agents.
The Company enjoys considerable technical and financial support from its parent company, Evans Brothers Limited of London. The parent company has active publishing programmes for many countries in Africa, including Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon and Botswana, as well as publishing for schools in the UK. Evans Brothers (Kenya) Limited is the agent in Kenya for books published by the parent company.
